The next World Games takes place in Wroclaw, Poland in 2017. DanceSport is also opening the Games in 4 disciplines over the first 2 days.

Currently the following styles allowed to take part in the World Games are Standard (Ballroom), Latin and Acrobatic Rock n Roll. Formation Dancing is also included. Salsa is included in the 2017 event

So what dance styles are classed as DanceSport? Essentially it is anything that starts life as a social or leisure dance form and importantly can become competitive. The following is a short list but for a full up to date list please visit

A) Standard (Ballroom) - Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango, Viennese Waltz

B) Latin - Rumba, Samba, Cha Cha Cha, Paso Doble, Jive

C) Sequence - Classical, Modern, Latin

D) Latino - Argentine Tango, Salsa, Hustle, Rock n Roll

E) Freestyle - Disco/Freestyle, Hip Hop, Street and similar dance forms - excluding Hustle these forms can be danced by individuals as well as couples.

Formation Dancing isn’t a separate style of dance as such. Rather it is creative style in which participants develop shapes and lines based on particular dances.  It normally requires a minimum of 4 individuals (or 6 couples) for an effective formation to be devised.
